A training session titled “Zero Waste for Sustainable Environment, Livelihood, and Green Economy” was held at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Azerbaijan State Agricultural University (ADAU).
The training was organized as part of the “Impact of Climate Change on Children” project, jointly implemented by SOS Children’s Villages Azerbaijan Association and the Environment and Social Development Organization (Bangladesh). The event brought together approximately 100 participants, including ADAU’s faculty members and students, representatives of the Ganja City Executive Power, municipal organizations, the Ganja SME Development Center, students from the University of Technology, and entrepreneurs. The session was led by international zero-waste expert and ecologist Shahriyar Huseyn, who provided insights into the topic.
The training emphasized the importance of zero waste as a tool for environmental protection, ensuring sustainable livelihoods, and transitioning to a green economy. Participants were equipped with practical knowledge on zero-waste principles and their application in daily activities, document preparation, and business strategies.
Additionally, speakers such as the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Shalala Zeynalova; the Dean of the Faculty of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, Khalig Khalilov; the Head of the Department of Plant Protection, Yagub Hajiyev; and the Head of the Department of Civil Defense, Eldar Zeynalov, highlighted the significance of hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan and discussed the detrimental effects of harmful waste on ecosystems.
The project, carried out under the framework of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the State Support Agency for Non-Governmental Organizations’ “International Initiatives Related to COP29” competition, aims to contribute to reducing the impact of climate change. Activities such as tree-planting campaigns and community clean-up events are also planned within the project.
